Mine 101 Celebrates Its First Birthday

Mine 101, the clothing resale store operated by Women's Community House, celebrated its first year of business with a fashion show on March 29th.   The models were employees and volunteers of Women's Community House, and they wore clothing  from the store that showcased some of the current trends in Spring and Summer fashion.

The colour orange is big this spring, and the show demonstrated lots of options as to how to incorporate it into your warm weather wardrobe

The organizers made an excellent decision to use women (and a couple of men) of varying body shapes and ages to model the clothes.  The outfits looked great on all the women, and a number of them wanted to purchase what they modelled.

This woman looked just radiant in black and white, and a funky little bow-tie necklace made by a local jewellery designer.

Mine 101 is located in Bellwood Plaza, at 900 Oxford Street East, and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am - 6 pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 am - 9 pm and Sundays 12 - 4 pm.  Proceeds from sales go towards the support of programs for women and children at Women's Community House.  If you have nearly new clothing that you would like to donate, please note that donations are received and processed at the Women's Community House shelter on Wellington Rd.

Don't Rain On My (Easter) Parade

I was not able to get to New York for the traditional Fifth Avenue Easter Parade so in solidarity with my blogger friends in New York,  I decided to have my own parade of one on my porch.  And as no Easter Parade outfit is complete without some sort of head adornment, I dug out this marvelous raw silk fascinator made by Ophelie Hats that I purchased at From Mars last year.  It seemed to co-exist rather happily with the blue maxi-skirt I found at The Sentimentalist and the mint green faux bunny fur shrug from Lovesick.  I'm sure my neighbours are by now used to seeing me out on my porch in some crazy outfit while one of my friends takes photos (Thank you Donna). 

A fish tail hem, AND pockets - definitely something to make me kick up my heels!  I hope you all had a nice Easter weekend, however you chose to celebrate.

Ribbons, Ruffles and Lace, Oh My!

I found this ruffled sweater coat at a store in Cherryhill Mall called Sara Sohan.  I had never heard of it before, but the woman in this post told me she purchased her fabulous pants there so I thought I'd take a look.  Most of the clothes are in solid neutrals of black, grey, taupe and have dramatic shapes, tucks and draping.  Suffice it to say that it was love at first sight.  When I purchased this sweater, the store had much of their merchandise on sale so I think I paid about $35 for it, and when paired with my black zippered leggings and my favourite pink ankle boots, it made me feel like a million bucks.  Not a bad return on my investment, I'd say.
